Order of Jaine Austen Books
The Jaine Austen Mysteries is a series of cozy mystery novels by American novelist Laura Levine. Obviously named after the historical author Jane Austen, Jaine Austen is a freelance writer and part-time amateur sleuth. She lives in Los Angeles, but unlike the stereotypical Los Angelean, is carrying a few extra pounds. She has a cat named Prozac. The author is obviously very familiar with being a freelance writer, as before she became a novelist, Levine worked as a reporter, sitcom writer and a copywriter.
Laura Levine began her Jaine Austen Mysteries series in 2002 with her own debut novel, This Pen for Hire. The series is currently ongoing. As of this writing, she has yet to miss a year, publishing one new novel annually. Below is a list of Laura Levine’s Jaine Austen books in order of when they were first published (which is also their chronological order):

Jaine Austen Synopses: This Pen for Hire is the first novel in Laura Levine’s Jaine Austen mystery series. Jaine Austen is a freelance writer who is spending her days writing personal ads and looking for Mr. Right.
Last Writes is the second novel in the series. Jaine hasn’t found her man yet, but she has found a job writing a sitcom. Maybe it’s not going to win any awards, but it’s better than writing brochures and resumes. But when the star of the show, heartthrob Quinn Kirkland, racks up more girlfriends than one can count and ends up poisoned, an unsurprised Jaine begins to look into the many different suspects.
The third Jaine Austen book is entitled Killer Blonde. When she’s offered a gig ghostwriting by socialite SueEllen Kingsley, Jaine is elated (especially because her opportunities weren’t exactly knocking down the door). But soon, the socialite is found electrocuted in the bathtub and the #1 suspect is SueEllen’s own stepdaughter, Heidi.
Shoes to Die For is the fourth book in Laura Levine’s Jaine Austen series. Jaine doesn’t fit in too well in LA. She’s noy rich or skinny, nor is she starstruck. Jaine gets a job writing magazine ads for a boutique called Passions, but when an employee ends up stabbed by her own stiletto, she has to look through a long-list of suspects.
