Earl W. Emerson Synopsis: In Vertical Burn by Earl Emerson, Seattle firefighter John Finney made his way out of a burning warehouse, trying to get help for his partner who was trapped inside. Six months later, no one remembers anything about Finney, other than the fact that he left his friend to die. Was the fire an accident? Finney doesn’t think so. Finney must reconstruct the events from six months ago, looking into some suspicious behaviours from men who were at the scene of the fire. With only one person on his side in the department, Finney must uncover a conspiracy that will turn his friends into suspects and the rest of the department into an enemy.
