Catherine Ryan Howard is an Irish Author who burst onto the scene with her debut thriller, Distress Signals. The book was a big hit upon its release as it charted on both the Irish Times and USA Today bestsellers lists. The book was also shortlisted for the CWA John Creasey/New Blood Dagger and the Books Are My Bag Irish Crime Novel of the Year. Additionally, it was the winner of the Best Mystery at the Independent Press Awards.
Catherine started her writing by self-publishing non-fiction and even delivered workshops on the subject. This was never her goal though as she always wanted to write crime fiction and get her work published.

Howard’s debut was Distress Signals. In this book, Adam Dunne is worried as his girlfriend Sarah fails to return from a business trip to Barcelona and he is seriously worried. His worries are justified when her passport shows up reading only “I’m sorry -S”. Adam decides to do whatever it takes to find her and sets off to find her. He connects her to a ship called the Celebrate and another woman who disappeared almost exactly a year before form the same ship. The trouble doesn’t end there though as Adam will have to dig deeper to find out exactly what happened to Sarah.
Another good book by Howard is called The Liar’s Girl. This book sees a freshman at Dublin’s St. John’s College named Alison Smith who has found love in her first year. The attractive Will Hurley is attractive and charming, but he also has a dark secret. When Alison’s best friend is murdered by a serial killer and it turns out that Will is that serial killer, she can’t take anymore and leaves town to never look back. Ten years later there is a copycat killer and the police look to Will for help, but there is only one person he’ll talk to and Sarah will have to return to Dublin to stop any more murders.
