Each month we ask our Facebook followers for a book or series recommendation based on a particular genre or similar parameters – and then print the answers in our mid-month newsletter.

I thought it would be a good idea to have a separate page listing these, as I use it as a reference guide often.

This list is of the Favourite UK Authors which was first posted in the April 2021 Newsletter.

The United Kingdom has given us some of the greatest authors of all time and this list tries to capture them all. The amount of great works to come out of the UK is impressive and it’s hard to imagine the world of fiction without them. Whether we are talking about the Harry Potter series from J.K. Rowling, the totalitarian nightmare of 1984 by George Orwell, the classics from Jane Austen, speculative fiction like The City & The City by China Mieville, the hilarious works of Terry Pratchett and Douglas Adams, or the godfather of them all – William Shakespeare; the UK has given us just an insane amount of excellent writings.

Some of my personal favorites are on this list as well.

Neil Gaiman has written some of the best fantasy over his career. One of my all-time favorites by him is The Ocean at the End of the Lane, a terrifying fairy tale that only he could write.

Ruth Ware is another great author. Her debut novel, In a Dark, Dark Wood was one of the best thrillers of the year and made many top books list. The story sees a cozy and fun-filled weekend in the English countryside turning into a nightmare. That’s all I’ll say to avoid spoilers, but I will say that is very good.

Another legendary author out of the UK to make the list was Ruth Rendell. I really enjoyed her book, The Girl Next Door. The story focuses on a group of friends made in 1944 at the end of World War II. The children discover a tunnel in their neighborhood which becomes their secret hangout. Then, six decades later, two hands are discovered in a tin box on the land. The old friends are brought back together to talk to the police which leads to the beginnings of their friendships coming unraveled.

These are just a few I like. For more, please check out the list below. Let me know if you see any that are missing in the comments below.
