Tim Pratt Synopses: The Strange Adventures of Rangergirl is a standalone novel by Tim Pratt. As the night manager of Santa Cruz’s quirkiest coffeehouse, Marzi McCarty excels at crafting a perfect espresso, but her true passion lies in creating comics. Her pride and joy is *The Strange Adventures of Rangergirl*, a cowpunk neo-western tale where Rangergirl delivers her own brand of justice in an urban frontier inspired by Marzi’s vivid imagination. However, Marzi’s creative vision starts to blur with reality when she begins to perceive the world through Rangergirl’s eyes—complete with her arch-nemesis, the Outlaw.
The shift began when Marzi discovered a hidden door in the coffeehouse’s storage room. Behind it, she encountered something unknown and dangerous, and she inadvertently became its guardian. But it seems some primal darkness escaped, because both Marzi and her customers have been behaving unusually, with apocalyptic overtones.
Now, Marzi must confront this supervillainous force that has infiltrated her world. For Marzi, it’s the ultimate battle of her life. For Rangergirl, it’s just another day in the wild urban frontier.
Briarpatch by Tim Pratt is a standalone novel. Darrin’s life has been spiraling ever since his girlfriend Bridget left him without any explanation six months ago. Shortly after her departure, he lost his job, his car, and eventually his zest for life. He thinks things can’t get worse—until he sees Bridget again, moments before she leaps to her death from a bridge. Driven to understand why Bridget took her own life, Darrin’s search leads him to encounter a depressive (and possibly immortal) cult leader, a man with a car that can traverse worlds, a beautiful but psychotic woman wielding a chrome shotgun, and a bridge that might just lead to heaven.
Darrin’s journey takes him to the Briarpatch, a mysterious realm described variously as the universe’s crawlspace, a series of abandoned divine projects, or a tangle of alternate realities. Amidst this chaotic snarl of worlds, Darrin hopes to find Bridget again—or at least uncover a reason to keep living without her.
The Knife and the Serpent is a standalone title by Tim Pratt. After her grandmother is murdered in a home invasion, Tamsin Culver leaves her cushy programming job in San Francisco and returns to her Midwestern hometown to settle the estate. She soon discovers a shocking secret: her grandmother was an exile from an advanced reality known as Nigh-Space and ruled there as an oligarch. Tamsin is now heir to vast wealth, but this revelation puts her in the crosshairs of those who once sought to annihilate her family.
Meanwhile, in the Bay Area, grad student Glenn uncovers that his girlfriend Vivy is a secret agent for the Interventionists, an interdimensional organization protecting less-developed worlds from exploitation. When Vivy gets into trouble, Glenn finds himself aboard a sapient starship in a distant level of the continuum, racing to save her.
As Glenn and Vivy’s mission intersects with Tamsin’s inheritance, hidden connections and conflicting agendas emerge, leading to a catastrophic clash. This reality-spanning adventure traverses alien planets, mysterious space stations, and Bay Area bars, featuring starship battles, cyborg augmentation, abductions, snark, betrayal, and emotional fallout. It’s a princess of Nigh-Space versus a champion of Nigh-Space in an epic tale of survival and intrigue.
