Order of Adam Hall Books
Adam Hall is the best known pseudonym of British author Elleston Trevor [born Trevor Dudley-Smith] (1920-1995), who also wrote as Simon Rattray, Howard North, Roger Fitzalan, Mansell Black, Trevor Burgess, Warwick Scott, Caesar Smith and Lesley Stone. He wrote all sorts of different genres, including spy thrillers, adventure, children’s books and more. He is best known for his Quiller series and for his novel The Flight of the Phoenix. Aside from writing novels, he also wrote stageplays, radioplays, screenplays and worked in journalism.
Adam Hall became a published novelist in 1943 with the children’s book Into the Happy Glade, which he wrote under his birthname of Trevor Dudley Smith. Most of his novels were written as Elleston Trevor – a name he debuted in 1946. The Adam Hall pen name was debuted in 1963 with the standalone novel The Volcanoes of San Domingo. A Blaze of Arms was published as by Roger Fitzalan and later as Adam Hall. A Blaze of Roses was published in the UK as The Fire-Raiser. The Pillars of Midnight was later re-released in the UK as 80,000 Suspects. The Burning Shore was published in the USA as The Pasang Run. The Paragon was published in the USA as Night Stop.
Dead on Course, Sinister Cargo, Shadow of Evil and Steps in the Dark were written as Mansell Black. Over the Wall, Double Who Double Crossed, Escape to Fear, Now Try the Morgue, Into the Happy Glade and By a Silver Stream were written under the author’s real name of Trevor Dudley-Smith. Expressway was originally written as Howard North, then re-published as by Elleston Trevor. The children’s books A Spy at Monk’s Court, Mystery of the Missing Book and The Racing Wraith were written under the pseudonym of Trevor Burgess. Image in the Dust (aka Cockpit), The Domesday Story (aka Doomsday) and Naked Canvas were written as Warwick Scott, then later re-released as by Elleston Trevor. Heat Wave was written as Caesar Smith, then re-issued later as by Elleston Trevor. Siren Song and Rivera Story were written as Lesley Stone (aka Leslie Stone).
