Order of Alan Hunter Books
Alan Hunter (1922-2005) was an English author of crime fiction. After leaving school at 14, he worked on his family farm and enjoyed writing natural history notes for the newspaper as well as poetry. All of his novels are part of his Inspector George Gently series, for which he wrote one novel almost every year he was active.
Alan Hunter became a published author in 1944 when his poems were collected and released as The Norwich Poems, which is long since out-of-print. His debut novel was published in 1955, entitled Gently Does It. He wrote a total of 46 novels over the course of his career, with the final one being Gently Mistaken, which was published in 1999. Notes: Gently North-West was also published under the title of Gently in the Highlands. Gently in Trees was alternatively titled Gently Through the Woods. Fields of Heather was also titled Death on the Heath. Amorous Leander is also known as Death on the Broadlands. The Unhanged Man was also published as Unhung Man.
