Andrea G. Stewart is an American author who burst onto the scene with her first novel, The Bone Shard Daughter. That book is the first in the Drowning Empire series of books.
Andrea was born as the daughter of immigrants and her family lived in numerous places across America. During her upbringing, her parents wanted her to focus on science and education which lead her to the library as well as Star Trek. Stewart decided to focus on writing after her more fantastical career options didn’t pan out and got her start writing short stories. The Bone Shard was her first novel. Stewart lives in California.

The Bone Shard Daughter is the first book in The Drowning Empire series of books. The book takes place in an empire controlled by bone shard magic that is struck by revolution. The emperor has maintained control of the empire for a along time thanks to his mastery of bone shard magic, but now he is starting to fail and a revolution is spreading. His daughter Lin is very skilled, but her father refuses to recognize her as the heir to the throne. Lin sets out to prove herself by mastering bone shard magic, but such great power can come at a great cost. When the revolution comes to her doorstep, she’ll have to decide just how far she is willing to go to protect her kingdom.
A great short story by Stewart is called Dragon Maiden. The inventive story seems like it is going to be a cliche young girl sacrificed to a dragon story, but it proves to be much more than that with unexpected twists and purpose. The story is an intense, fast-paced love story that will surprise you.
