Order of Bernie Gunther Books
Bernie Gunther is the central character in a series of historical mystery/thriller novels by British novelist Philip Kerr. Bernie fought on the Turkish Front during World War I and was a cop before becoming a private eye in Berlin before World War II. His business is heating up due to the rise of the Nazi Party, even though he’s not making any friends with those in power.
The Bernie Gunther series began in 1989 with March Violets. The series would take a lengthy hiatus after A German Requiem in 1991. The series would resume in 2006 with The One from the Other. I believe the final novel is “Metropolis”, published in 2019.
Philip Kerr died in March, 2018.
The chronology of the novels does not match the order in which they were published. Some novels jump many years back and forth from chapter to chapter while others are more linear and span a few weeks to a few months.
