If You Like Casey Barrett Books, You’ll Love…
Under Water sees Duck Darley, a man who believes his best days are behind him. Duck isn’t a private investigator, but he does accept money to find things for people. One of his jobs brings his past back to the forefront of his life when he’s hired to find the teenage sister of a former swimming teammate who became an Olympic champion. He’s on the lookout for Madeline, a privileged young girl with a promising athletic career, that has gone missing. He’s on the hunt for her when her boyfriend is found savagely murdered. Madeline is the prime suspect and Duck remains on the search for her as he’s drawn back into the world of Olympic swimming, a much darker world than anyone imagines.
Barrett followed that book up with Against Nature. Duck is trying to settle down a bit in this one as he’s living with a woman and her son. However, he soon gets called back into things by a former partner who believes that her boyfriend was murdered for researching the tragic doping experiments that changed the lives of East German Olympic athletes during the Cold War. Duck is drawn into a dangerous investigation that will endanger his life and those around him.
