Cate Conte is an American author best known for writing the Cat Cafe Mystery series of books. The series began in 2017 with the release of Cat About Town.
The name Cate Conte is actually a pen name for the author Liz Mugavero. She also writes books under her own name, including the Pawsitively Organic Mysteries series. Cate/Liz attended college in Salem, Massachusetts and went on to earn her master’s in writing and publishing from Emerson college. After graduation she began working towards writing mystery novels. In addition to her work as an author, Cate has also worked as a journalist for newspapers around the northeast of the United States.

Cat About Town is the first book in the Cat Cafe Mystery series. The book sees Maddie James arriving on Daybreak Island to start her own business and maybe even meet someone special. Shortly after her arrival, an orange tabby comes into her life which inspires her to open a cat cafe. Her life takes a major turn when her new kitty ends up finding a dead body. This brings her a ton of attention of the townspeople, including the killer. She’ll have to put her career and love life on the back burner as she tries to find the killer before they find her.
Witch Trial is the first book in the Full Moon Mystery series. The book sees a woman named Violet Mooney who owns a crystal shop in Connecticut. She has just lost her grandmother and has since decided to focus on her work, and her cat. A local politician isn’t a fan of her shop, referring to it as a “voodoo shop”, and the two have a confrontation. When the politician turns up dead, Violet is the top suspect. Violet’s mother then reappears in town, reawakening a long-dormant power in Violet which will prove helpful going forward.
