Dee MacDonald Synopses: Murder in the Scottish Highlands by Dee MacDonald is the first book in the Ally McKinley series. Recently retired Ally McKinley thought she had found her perfect new life in the charming village of Locharran, Scotland, where she transformed an old malthouse into her dream guesthouse. With new friends like Hamish Sinclair, the local earl, and her loyal Labrador puppy, Flora, life seemed idyllic. But Ally’s peaceful retirement is shattered when her first guest, American genealogist Wilbur Carrington, is found dead in her courtyard with a dagger in his back.

As the local police struggle to solve the mystery, Ally’s natural curiosity leads her to investigate. Wilbur had stirred up the village with his claim that he was the rightful Earl of Locharran and his plans that threatened to displace many locals, including the fiercely loyal staff at the castle. Could one of them have been pushed to murder?

Armed with a plate of shortbread and her sharp instincts, Ally starts digging for clues, finding a mysterious photograph in Wilbur’s room that could unravel the case. But when another suspect meets a suspicious end, Ally realizes she’s dealing with a ruthless killer who’s getting closer to her. Will she crack the case before the murderer strikes again, or will her dreams of running a cozy guesthouse end in disaster?

The Runaway Wife by Dee MacDonald is the first book in her Connie McColl series. In early August, Connie McColl reaches a breaking point. Tired of managing one family crisis after another—mostly caused by her rambunctious grandchildren—while her husband Roger indulges in his golfing obsession, Connie decides it’s time for a change.

Determined to reclaim her own life, Connie packs a bag, hops into her little green car, and sets off on a spontaneous journey from England to Scotland. As she navigates through picturesque landscapes and quaint towns, Connie finds herself rediscovering passions and parts of herself she had long neglected.

Her adventure turns into a transformative experience, sparking new interests and connections. With each mile, Connie wonders if she will ever feel ready to return to her old life or if this summer journey will lead her to a new path altogether. Will Connie find the freedom and fulfillment she’s been missing, or will she decide that home and family are where she belongs?
