Derek Haas is an American author and screenwriter. As an author, he is best known for writing The Silver Bear and the following books in that series that follow the assassin known as Columbus. In the film and television he is known for co-writing the script for 3:10 To Yuma, Wanted, and for his work as a co-creator of the hit television show Chicago Fire.
Derek is also an executive producer on Chicago PD and Chicago Med. He lives in Los Angeles where he works and writes.

The Silver Bear is the portrait of a hitman who calls himself Columbus. He’s sort of the anit-Jason Bourne in that he wants you know know him and how great he is at his craft. He’s a natural killer and he has many kills, he’s a legend in the industry. Columbus took that name when he mentor gave it to him and he never knew his parents. His mother was a prostitute and his father was a young politician. Now, years later, his birth father is running for the Democratic nomination for President. Columbus begins to piece together his past, but as he’s doing so the criminal underworld starts unraveling which puts him in a tough position.
A non-Columbus book that Haas wrote is The Right Hand. This one focuses on a spy named Austin Clay who is the CIA’s best kept secret. He works on his own and he would be disavowed by the government if he were ever caught. His latest mission sees him sent to track down a missing American operative who was captured in Russia. This ends up only being part of the mission as he becomes entangled with a woman who believes a mole has infiltrated the U.S. government at its highest levels.
