Drew Hayes Synopses: In Pears and Perils by Drew Hayes, Clint Tucker’s unexpected win in the Camelot Burger sweepstakes should have been a dream come true: $50,000 and a starring role in a national commercial, all while relaxing on the idyllic beaches of Kenowai. But Clint, perpetually cynical and more than a little out of his depth, quickly realizes there’s more to this tropical paradise than sun and sand.
As part of the shoot, Clint and the other winners are roped into reenacting an ancient Kenowai ritual, supposedly to honor a local legend. The quirky, over-the-top theatrics seem like just another marketing gimmick until strange things start happening—ominous whispers, eerie symbols, and a sudden storm that’s way too convenient. It turns out the “imprisoned deity” isn’t just a catchy storyline; it’s real, it’s restless, and it’s been waiting for someone—anyone—to meet its bizarre, beer-fueled demands.
Thrust into a world of ancient myths and tropical mysteries, Clint and his fellow contestants must navigate deadly challenges, divine trickery, and each other. Between bouts of danger, plenty of booze, and Camelot Burger’s increasingly ridiculous slogans, Clint might just discover his inner hero—or, at the very least, survive long enough to spend his winnings.
In Second Hand Curses by Drew Hayes, fairy tales take a gritty, action-packed twist as the Bastard Champions—an infamous trio of mercenaries—battle their way through a world of twisted legends and sinister magic. Jack, the fearless and almost unkillable leader, Marie, a fierce fighter with a monstrous secret, and Frank, the meticulous tactician haunted by his hidden scars, will take on any quest—for the right price.
When townsfolk face curses, monsters, or manipulative magic, they know the Bastard Champions are their only hope. Whether it’s thwarting a fairy godmother’s malevolent plans, outsmarting a Pied Piper who’s stolen their children, or seeking vengeance on a prince with a penchant for amphibian transformations, the trio always delivers justice—though not necessarily in the way you’d expect.
But this time, the stakes are higher than gold. As they cut a swath of chaos through enchanted kingdoms, the Champions uncover breadcrumbs leading to the ultimate foe: the Blue Fairy, the orchestrator of their own tragic backstories. Driven by a thirst for freedom and revenge, Jack, Marie, and Frank must outwit their cunning nemesis while navigating a world where even the most beloved fairy tales hide dark truths.
