If You Like Heather Walter Books, You’ll Love…
Heather Walter Review: Malice by Heather Walter was a truly heart-wrenching journey, following the protagonist’s gradual descent into madness as she faces the relentless cruelty of her world. It’s a powerful tale of love, hope, discovery, and betrayal, perfectly capturing the saying, “the path to hell is paved with good intentions.”
While I initially sought it out for its LGBT themes, the book exceeded my expectations and became one of the best reads I’ve experienced. The writing style, world-building, vivid depictions of power, and the bittersweet ending were all masterfully crafted. I’m completely in love with this book! -D.
Heather Walter Synopses: Misrule is the second book in the Malice Duology by Heather Walter. Alaric returns from a failed crusade to find his homeland, Dekar, in ruins. The once-thriving kingdom is now drowning in chaos, overrun by lawlessness and corruption. As a seasoned general who fought under the Cardinal King in the Holy Land, Alaric has faced countless battles and navigated dangerous political waters, but nothing could have prepared him for the devastation waiting at home.
Dekar has fallen into a state of disarray, its once-proud cities reduced to crumbling shadows of their former glory, and its people oppressed by ruthless factions vying for control. Alaric is no stranger to war, but the enemies now threatening Dekar are hidden in the shadows—former allies turned traitors, ambitious warlords, and mysterious forces whose influence stretches further than he imagined.
Grappling with the deep-seated loyalty to his homeland and the burden of leadership, Alaric must confront his own inner demons as he navigates a landscape riddled with danger and deceit. Torn between his duty to his people and the weight of a destiny he never sought, Alaric embarks on a mission to reclaim Dekar from the brink of destruction.
But as he unravels the mysteries of what caused Dekar’s downfall, Alaric begins to suspect that the betrayal runs deeper than he realized. Faced with hard truths, he must decide whether to continue fighting for the land he once called home or forge a new path altogether.
In this epic tale of loyalty, duty, and sacrifice, Alaric’s battle to save Dekar becomes a journey of self-discovery, as he learns that the true fight for his homeland is not just against external enemies, but within himself. If he fails, Dekar might be lost forever.
