Maureen Johnson is an American young adult author best know for writing book series like 13 Little Blue Envelopes, Shades of London, and Truly Devious. Her book, The Name of the Star got an Edgar Award nomination for excellence in Young Adult fiction.
Johnson was born in Philadelphia and later attended the University of Delaware where she graduated with a degree in English in 1995. She would later go on to attend Columbia University where she earned her MFA in Writing. Johnson is very active on social media and was once listed as one of TIME’s “The 140 Best Twitter Feeds of 2011. Maureen is a vegetarian and often shares her love for vegetarian food on her blog and twitter account. Johnson is married and lives in New York City.

Truly Devious is the first book in the series of the same name. The book takes place at the prestigious private school Ellingham Academy. The academy was opened by Albert Ellingham and shortly after the opening, his wife and daughter were kidnapped. The kidnapper only left one clue, a mocking riddle that was signed with the name Truly Devious. The case became one of the great unsolved mysteries in American history. Today, Stevie Bell is beginning her first year at Ellingham Academy with one goal in mind: solve this cold case. As she begins her investigation, something unexpected happens: Truly Devious returns.
Johnson is also the author of 13 Little Blue Envelopes. The book sees a girl named Ginny who is planning to spend her summer backpacking across Europe. Then one day, she receives a little blue envelope from her Aunt Peg. The only issue is that her Aunt Peg died three months ago. The envelope includes cash and a plane ticket, as well as instructions to retrieve the other twelve letters she wrote. Ginny finds herself swept away on a real adventure that were take her all across Europe and help her uncover things about her lost aunt.
