Patricia Smiley is an American author best known for her Pacific Homicide series and her other series about Tucker Sinclair, an amateur sleuth. The third book in the Pacific Homicide series, The Second Goodbye, was awarded as one of the top ten crime novels of 2018.
Smiley is from a small agricultural town in Washington state. As a child her mother introduced in her a love of books where she fell in love with mysteries. She held numerous jobs and chased different careers including working for a cruise line, acting, and even working in juvenile detention. While living in LA she learned that acting wasn’t for her, but that writing a novel really spoke to her and writing about LA was something that she needed to do.

Pacific Homicide is the first book in the Pacific Homicide series. The book follows LAPD Homicide Detective Davie Ricahrds, one of the few cops that has used their weapon in the line of duty as she killed a suspect to save an officer’s life. She is under investigation at the start of the book, waiting for the commission to rule on the shooting, when she is called out to probe the murder of a 19-year-old Russian. She knows that any mistake could end her career and works hard to solve the case before the killer strikes again.
The first book in the Tucker Sinclair series is called False Profits. Tucker is working as a senior manager at a prestigious Los Angeles consulting firm where she gets a job to help a doctor expand his medical practices. She dives head first into the job as she is on the fast track to partner, but when she does the job – she is accused of “doctoring” the projections to get rich. She is suspended from the firm for this even though it is something that she didn’t do and she’ll need to figure out how to clear her name before the FBI gets to her.
