Rachel Harrison is an American author of horror novels. She holds a degree in Writing for Film & Television from Emerson College, where she spent her time writing horror screenplays, learning Tarot, and befriending the ghost in her best friend’s Beacon Hill apartment. After a brief stint in publishing, she transitioned to working at a bank, which, surprisingly, isn’t as scary as it sounds.

Rachel Harrison made her debut in 2020 with The Return, which was nominated for a Bram Stoker Award for Superior Achievement in a First Novel. Below is a list of Rachel Harrison’s books in order of when they were originally released:

Rachel Harrison Synopses: Cackle is a standalone novel by Rachel Harrison. Annie has always stuck to the safe and predictable path, but after her longtime boyfriend dumps her, she’s ready for a change. Taking a leap of faith, she leaves the hustle of Manhattan for a small, idyllic village upstate, accepting a teaching position and hoping for a fresh start. The town is picture-perfect, and the locals are welcoming—almost too welcoming. Her new apartment is charming, except for a persistent spider problem that she can’t quite shake.

Then, Annie meets Sophie. Sophie is captivating—beautiful, confident, and utterly magnetic. From the moment they meet, Sophie makes it her mission to shake Annie out of her rut, urging her to stop apologizing for everything and start living unapologetically. Annie finds herself drawn to Sophie’s bold, carefree attitude, spending more and more time with her, despite the unease Sophie seems to inspire in the rest of the town.

The deeper Annie gets into Sophie’s world, the more she starts to notice strange things. Sophie never seems to age, her secluded mansion in the woods feels oddly alive, and she seems to possess a power that’s almost… supernatural. As their friendship intensifies, Annie can’t help but wonder: Is Sophie just a charismatic force of nature, or is there something far more otherworldly lurking beneath the surface?

Such Sharp Teeth by Rachel Harrison is a standalone novel. Rory Morris never wanted to return to her hometown, but when her twin sister, Scarlett, becomes pregnant and estranged from the baby’s father, Rory feels obligated to help. Reluctantly, she heads back to face the place she swore she’d left behind for good. There are too many ghosts there, both literal and emotional. After a night at a bar catching up with Ian, a guy she almost dated years ago, Rory’s life takes a terrifying turn when she hits a large animal with her car. When she steps out to check, she’s attacked by something in the dark.

She survives the attack, but nothing feels the same. Rory discovers strange new powers—unnatural strength, heightened senses, and an unsettling aversion to silver. Worse, the moon now exerts a pull on her that’s impossible to ignore. Slowly, she realizes she’s becoming something else—something dangerous, possibly even monstrous.

As Rory struggles with the changes in her body and the fear of what she might become, she also grapples with the question of whether this new wildness inside her is something to be feared—or embraced. And, most troubling of all, she wonders whether she’s putting those she loves, especially Scarlett and her unborn child, in danger. Rory must decide whether to resist the monster she’s becoming, or accept it as part of herself, even if it means changing her life forever.

Black Sheep is a standalone novel by Rachel Harrison. Vesper Wright thought she had left her peculiar, religious upbringing behind when she fled home at eighteen, vowing never to return. Her family’s strict beliefs left no room for those who strayed, and Vesper had accepted that her departure was permanent. But when an unexpected invitation arrives for her cousin Rosie’s wedding, set to take place at the family farm, Vesper is forced to reconsider.

Could the invite be an olive branch, a sign that her family has forgiven her, or is it a carefully laid trap? Despite her reservations, Vesper feels an inexplicable pull to attend, even if it means confronting her past—and her cold, distant mother, Constance, a former horror film actress with a reputation for cruelty.

As Vesper steps back into the twisted world she thought she had left behind, long-buried family secrets begin to resurface, unsettling her sense of reality. What starts as a seemingly innocent homecoming soon takes a dark turn as Vesper uncovers a terrifying secret tied to the family’s deeply held beliefs. As she grapples with the horrors of her past and the sinister truths of her family’s faith, Vesper must confront her own crisis of belief and find a way to break free from the binds of her upbringing in this dark and suspenseful novel.

In a story that blends family drama with psychological horror, Vesper’s journey is one of self-discovery and survival, testing the limits of loyalty, identity, and the ties that bind.
