Stone Barrington is a series of suspense-thriller novels by American author Stuart Woods. Stone Barrington served 14 years in the NYPD, but was forced out after not seeing eye-to-eye with his superiors. His parents were both disinherited by their rich parents; his father for being a communist and his mother for marrying one.
The Stone Barrington series is the largest series of Stuart Woods’ work. It started in 1991 with New York Dead and continues to this day with more than 20 novels. Below is the order in which Stuart Woods’ Stone Barrington series was originally released in:

Stone Barrington Synopses: Stuart Woods Synopses: New York Dead is the first Stone Barrington book from Stuart Woods. They say Stone Barrington is too smart to be a cop, but it’s pure luck that places him on the streets in the dead of night, just in time to witness the horrifying incident that changes his life.
Overnight, he’s on the front page of every newspaper in New York, and his life is hopelessly entwined in the increasingly shocking life (and perhaps death) of Sasha Nijinsky, the most beautiful television anchorwoman in the country.
No matter where he turns, the case is waiting for him, haunting his nights and turning his days into a living hell. Stone ends up caught in a perilous web of horrific crimes, dangerous friends, and sexual depravity that has throughout it one thing in common: Sasha.
Dirt by Stuart Woods is the second book in the Stone Barrington series. Feared and loathed for her writing and icy persona, Amanda Dart has more than enough enemies. Then the tables are turned. An anonymous gossiper is faxing Amanda’s personal and private peccadilloes to anyone who can read. In order to salvage her reputation, she enlists the help of New York lawyer and private investigator Stone Barrington to discover the identity of the faxer. And everyone in the world of tabloid journalism becomes a suspect.
But the faxes don’t stop coming. In fact, it only made things worse. And Stone winds up with more leads than one man can handle, until Amanda takes matters dangerously into her own hands and turns the world of gossip on its head. As the circle of suspects lessens, Stone will realize that even the most respected socialites will stop at nothing – even murder – to clear their sullied names.
In Dead in the Water (book 3 in the series) by Stuart Woods, Stone Barrington has barely arrived in St. Marks, a lovely Caribbean island nation, on a sailing vacation when something very strange occurs: An attractive young woman sails into the harbor, entirely alone on a large yacht. Before long she is under the intense scrutiny of local authorities in the very considerable person of Sir Winston Sutherland, the minister of Justice. The problem is, though she arrived alone, she had set off from the other side of the Atlantic in the company of her husband, a well-known writer, who is no longer present.
Stone is fascinated by evidence, and before many pages have been turned, he is all that stands between the apparently innocent Allison Manning and the patently evil intent of Sir Winston, whose motives are unclear. What is clear is that the St. Marks’ system of justice bears little resemblance to the American courts to which Stone is accustomed and that his smallest error could end up being fatal to his client.

Stuart Woods has created the perfect man in the Stone Barrington series. He is so perfect he becomes unbelievable after the first few books in the series but he remains a thoroughly enjoyable character. Stone leads us into a world of romance, wealth and crime along with his onetime partner and friend Dino Bacchetti. Quick and very enjoyable reads from Stuart Woods.
