Travis Baldree Synopses: In Legends and Lattes by Travis Baldree, after a lifetime filled with bounties and bloodshed, Viv decides it’s time to retire her sword for good. The battle-weary orc sets her sights on a new venture—to open the first-ever coffee shop in the city of Thune. However, the path to success is fraught with challenges, including old and new rivals and the fact that no one in the city has the faintest idea what coffee actually is.
To turn her dreams into reality, Viv realizes she can’t go it alone. The journey to put her blade behind her and start fresh requires allies and support from unexpected quarters. Along the uncharted path she’s chosen, Viv discovers that the true rewards are not just the destination but the fellow travelers she meets along the way. Whether brought together by ancient magic, the aroma of flaky pastry, or a freshly brewed cup of coffee, these companions may become more than just allies—they could become partners, family, and something deeper than Viv ever could have dreamed.
Bookshops and Bonedust by Travis Baldree is the second book of the Legends & Lattes series. Viv’s career with the notorious mercenary company, Rackam’s Ravens, takes an unexpected turn. Wounded during the pursuit of a powerful necromancer, she finds herself against her will in the quiet beach town of Murk for recovery—far removed from the action she craves. It seems like a far cry from the mercenary life she’s accustomed to.
Faced with the prospect of a less thrilling existence, Viv unexpectedly spends her time at a struggling bookshop in the company of its foul-mouthed proprietor. It’s a departure from her expectations, but it might just be what she needs and the catalyst for changes she couldn’t have foreseen.
Yet, adventure is never too far away. In Murk, a suspicious traveler in gray, a gnome with a chip on her shoulder, a summer fling, and an improbable number of skeletons make the town more eventful than Viv could have ever imagined. As she navigates through the unexpected twists and turns of her new surroundings, Murk proves to be a place where adventure is never truly out of reach.
Jumpin’ Joey by Travis Baldree is a delightful tale that follows the whimsical journey of a young kangaroo. Joey, eager to fit in with the other kangaroos, decides to learn how to jump despite his feet not being well-suited for the task. The story loosely mirrors the classic “how the leopard got his spots” narratives and is brimming with zany characters. Adding to the humor are the hilarious antics of Joey’s loyal sidekick, Leroy Lizard. Together, they embark on a charming and amusing adventure that celebrates individuality and the joy of being true to oneself.
This series of books beginning with Legends & Lattes are magnificent. I simply can’t remember smiling as much when reading any other books and I’ve been reading for 61 years.
The second one, which I preordered is, if possible, even better.
I read an article saying these were written for a young audience.
Well, I don’t care who they are targeted for. The artwork caught my eye, my inner child leaped forward and this 65-year-old grandma simply loves these books.
I’m a gamer and I have always thought orcs got a bad rep in books and games.
Viv is the protagonist in these stories and she is an orc with dreams. Simply delightful. I hope he never stops writing about Viv, the 100+-year-old bookseller, who knows there is a book for everyone and all the other wonderful characters who will steal your heart and make you smile as much as I did.
