William R. Forstchen is an American author of science fiction and alternate history novels. He writes the Lost Regiment series, co-authored the Civil War series with Newt Gingrich and has contributed towards such series as Riftwar, Star Trek, Magic: The Gathering and Wing Commander. Besides being a novelist, Forstchen is a Professor of History and Faculty Fellow at Montreat College, in North Carolina. He earned his doctorate from Purdue University, specializing in Military History, the American Civil War and the History of Technology. William lives near Asheville, North Carolina.
