Mommy Porn or Baby Porn? Erotica Author Weighs in on “Fifty Shades”
Some say that E.L. James‘ Fifty Shades trilogy is too graphic. Others, like erotica author Shirley Conran says it’s not risque enough.
James’ books have been dubbed “mommy porn.” Conran, like James, disagrees with this label, but for a very different reason. She says it’s more like “infantile baby porn.” She notes that there’s no real S&M until 400 pages in.
Conran’s eighties erotic novel Lace was a hit 30 years ago and now her novel will be getting a re-release this summer. She also criticized the editing of the novels (which James did herself), calling the prose “jerky.”
With that said, she is grateful for the novels’ success, as it is breathes new life into her novels. Lots of people are looking for books like Fifty Shades of Grey and Lace certainly fits that bill.
