Unpublished Tolkien Poem Rumoured To Be Published
British fantasy author J.R.R. Tolkien died before much of his work made publication. Now, it appears that a 1,000-line alliterative poem on Arthurian legends may see publication.
Tolkien wrote the poem in the thirties and wrote a 1955 letter to his publisher that said in part, “I write alliterative verse with pleasure, though I have published little beyond fragments in The Lord of the Rings, except ‘The Homecoming of Beorhtnoth’… a dramatic dialogue on the nature of the ‘heroic’ and the ‘chivalrous.’ I still hope to finish a long poem on The Fall of Arthur in the same measure.”
It is unknown as to whether or not Tolkien publisher HarperCollins will be publishing this poem.
