Upton Sinclair (1878-1968) was an American author of literary fiction and non-fiction. He was also a journalist, politician and political activist. He was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 1943 for the novel Dragon’s Teeth. Sinclair’s works often dealt with the issues of 19th Century industry. Growing up, he looked up to Jesus and Percy Bysshe Shelley. (more…)

She has a B.A. with honours in English Literature from Cambridge and an M.A in Creative Writing from Royal Holloway. She has worked as a Health & Beauty Editor, freelance journalist, ghost-writer and script reader. Saskia grew up in Suffolk, England and now lives in London. October 2017 Newsletter
Hi all,
Welcome to October, and the October newsletter. Last month was pretty cool as I listed book series on OrderOfBooks.com that get extremely little traffic. I heard from a lot of you who tried out authors and series based on that list so that was pretty cool. Hope some of you discovered a new series that way!

Joy Ellis is an English author of crime thriller novels. She writes the DI Nikki Galena and DS Joe Easter series, as well as the DI Rowan Jackman and DS Maria Evens series. Joy was born in Kent, but spent the majority of her adult life in London and Surrey. She worked as an apprentice florist at Constance Spry, Ltd. in Mayfair. She would later go on to work a variety of different jobs, including being a bookshop manager. Joy has been writing mysteries for years, but didn’t focus on it until later. She sets her novels in the Lincolnshire Fens, which she loves due to its remote location and the beauty of the marshlands. It is also where she makes her home, with her partner, Jacqueline (a retired police officer). (more…)
Order of Brian Aldiss Books
Brian W. Aldiss (1925-2017) was an English author of science fiction novels and short stories. Aldiss grew up reading the works of H.G. Wells, Robert Heinlein and eventually Philip K. Dick. Prior to becoming an author, he served in the Royal Signals in World War II (where he saw action). Following the war, he worked as a bookseller. During this time, he wrote short stories for a trade journal, which got the attention of an editor at Faber and Faber. His career was decorated with such awards and accolades as being named a Grand Master by the Science Fiction Writers of America, being inducted into the Science Fiction Hall of Fame, two Hugo Awards, one Nebula Award and one John W.
