Chris Allen is an Australian author of action thriller novels. He writes the Intrepid series, featuring Alex Morgan. Chris is formerly a paratrooper, having served in three Commonwealth armies, retiring as Major. He also has served in law enforcement, leading security operations for an international aid agency in East Timor and took over protection of the Sydney Opera House when it was vandalized. Robert Ryan is a British author of historical mystery novels. He writes the Morning, Noon and Night as well as the Dr. Watson series. Robert was born in Liverpool but moved to London when he was eighteen to attend university. He lectured in natural sciences for several years before moving into journalism in the mid-1980s, first with The Face and then the Dylan Jones-edited Arena. Henry James (1843-1916) was an American-British author of literary fiction novels and stories. A common theme in his novels was American ex-pats living in Europe. His plots were based around personal relationships, the proper usage of power in such relationships, and other moral questions. His imaginative use of point of view, interior monologue and unreliable narrators in his work brought an extra layer of depth to realistic fiction, and foreshadowed the modernist work of the 20th century. James was a prolific writer, in addition to his many works of fiction, he published articles and books on a variety of topics and wrote plays, some of which were performed during his lifetime to some success. Olivia Manning (1911-1980) was an Anglo-Irish author. Her novels usually had to do with personal journeys, set in England, Ireland and the Middle East – using drawing on her own experiences. After growing up in England and Ireland, she married British Council lecturer R.D. Smith and spent time in Romania, Greece, Egypt and Palestine, before returning to England. Olivia didn’t gain much fame until her Balkan and Levant trilogies were adapted into the “Fortunes of War” TV series in 1987 – seven years after her death. (more…)
