Katie began reading romance when she was young by reading her mom’s books. Now, she loves reading romance almost as much as she loves writing it herself. That said, she hasn’t always wanted to be a writer. Sir Henry Merrivale is the protagonist in a series of mystery novels by American novelist Carter Dickson (John Dickson Carr). Merrivale began the series as a serious character, but as the series goes on, became more and more comical. He began the series as a near-70s older man, but his age becomes more ambiguous as the series continues. Merrivale is a baronet and a barrister and has a medical degree. Dr. Gideon Fell is the protagonist in a series of mystery novels by American author John Dickson Carr. Dr. Fell is a large man with a moustache, and is usually seen wearing a cape, a shovel hat and using two canes. Early on, he is described as a lexicographer, and later as working on a history of English people’s drinking habits. As an amateur sleuth, he is often called upon by the police, but he frustrates them by not letting them in on his deductions until he has the mystery solved. Dr. Fell lives in the London suburbs. John Dickson Carr (1906-1977) was an American author of detective fiction and mystery novels. He also wrote as Carter Dickson. Carr is the creator of the Dr. Gideon Fell and the Sir Henry Merrivale series. He is considered one of the greatest Golden Age mystery writers, where his detectives would solve seemingly impossible mysteries. Carr spent a number of years living in England, and is often compared to British mystery authors. Most of his novels had English settings, such as country villages and estates, and featured English characters. Carr won two Edgar Awards and the Grand Master Award from the Mystery Writers of America. (more…)

C.C. Benison is the pen name of Canadian author Douglas Whiteway, who writes mystery novels. He is the author of the Her Majesty Investigates and the Father Christmas Mysteries series. As Douglas Whiteway, he has worked for both the Winnipeg Tribune and the Winnipeg Free Press. Marne has worked as a translator for a Colorado-based international oil company, a consumer reporter for a radio station, the director of communications for the Denver Center for the Performing Arts, an assistant bureau chief for the Rocky Mountain bureau of People magazine, and since 1981 has been executive vice president of the Kellogg Organization, Inc., a national fundraising counseling firm. She wrote her first novel when she was in the fourth grade, and the protagonist may have shared a similarity with herself. Since growing up, her essays and stories have appeared in Isotope: A Journal of Literary Nature and Science Writing, Saint Ann’s Review, Scissors and Spackle and Indiana Review. Kate studied painting and drawing at the University of Utah and graduated with a Bachelors of Fine Arts degree in 2005.
