Marion Zimmer Bradley was an American author of fantasy, science fiction and speculative fiction, as well as some gay & lesbian pulp fiction novels (which were controversial at the time) under various pseudonyms. Feminist views were a common theme in Bradley’s fiction. Bradley is best known for her Darkover series and to a lesser degree, her Avalon series. She also edited the long-running Sword and Sorceress anthology, which gave Mercedes Lackey her start as a published author. Bradley passed away in 1999 at the age of 69 after years of failing health. Alan Russell is an American author of crime fiction/mystery novels. Alan Russell played basketball at UC San Diego and made the team as a freshman, but had to quit due to a back injury. He ended up writing the student newspaper instead and ended up being the paper’s editor-in-chief. During his tenure, the paper went independent and eventually became known as The Guardian. After graduation, Russell worked in hospitality. Meanwhile, he wrote and sold articles for newspapers and magazines while working on novels.
