Joan Medlicott is an American author of women’s fiction. The idea of being an author never crossed her mind until 1989 when she found out how many women actually live celibate married lives. She teamed up with Diana Waltz to write her first non-fiction book, Celibate Wives: Breaking the Silence. Soon afterwards, she got the idea to write fiction and came up with the idea for her Ladies of Covington series. Horatio Hornblower is the protagonist in a series of naval adventure novels by English novelist C.S. Forester. The series is set during the Napoleonic Wars. Horatio begins the series as a junior captain with the Royal Navy on a secret mission to Central America. As the series goes on, he moves up the ranks of the Royal Navy. C.S. Forester was the pen name of English novelist Cecil Louis Troughton Smith (1899-1966), who wrote naval adventure novels and stories. He is best known for his Horatio Hornblower series as well as his novel The African Queen, the latter of which was adapted to film by legendary director John Huston in 1951. When Forester was living in Washington DC during World War II, he met an intelligence officer named Roald Dahl, who he encouraged to write about his experiences in the Royal Air Force. (more…)
