Lisa Kleypas is an American author of historical and contemporary romance novels. Two months following graduation, she sold her first manuscript and has been a full-time writer ever since. Her novels have been translated into 14 different languages. For the first 20 years of her career, Lisa wrote historical romances exclusively, until she announced in 2006 that she would be switching sub-genres to contemporary romance. Calvin & Hobbes Artwork Auction Breaks World Record
Written by Brandon Williams on Sunday, November 25th, 2012An original piece of hand-coloured Calvin & Hobbes artwork by Bill Watterson has broken the world record for the sale of a comic strip. The original strip was auctioned at Heritage Auctions for $203,150 on November 16th.
“A world record price like this is a testament to just how beloved Calvin & Hobbes was and is,” said Todd Hignite, Vice President of Heritage Auctions. “The final price realized tops any offering from any cartoonist ever, including the giants like Charles Schulz, Winsor McCay and Elzie Segar.” (more…)
Tolkien’s Estate Sues Warner Bros.
Written by Brandon Williams on Sunday, November 25th, 2012The estate of J.R.R. Tolkien and HarperCollins have filed a lawsuit against Warner Bros. for $80 million over using licensed characters from the Lord of the Rings and Hobbit series in online games of various types.
The lawsuit alleges that Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema infringed on the contract by licensing the characters out to online slot machines, online games and other downloads. (more…)
Bryce Courtenay Dies at 79
Written by Brandon Williams on Sunday, November 25th, 2012Bryce Courtenay, the most popular Australian author, died on Thursday at home in Canberra. He was 79.
He announced that his novel Jack of Diamonds would be his last, due to his battle with stomach cancer. The novel was published earlier this month.
His only novel to breakthrough in the United States was The Power of One, published in 1989. The novel tells the story of persecution and racism in South Africa in the ’30s and ’40s. The novel sold 8 million copies and was adapted to film in 1992. (more…)
